Today
we had a very interesting first class: we learned about 21st century learners
and their characteristics. Basically
this is the “new generation”, because they were born in a globalized and
technological world they basically expect the same characteristics in their
learning process; and that makes sense. The world of today is not the same it
was 60 years ago or more. Students’ needs and interests are different and we
need to prepare them to succeed in this “different” world.
We
also learned about the “old generation”, who had a more traditional and passive
role in their learning process. Nevertheless, this generation developed a lot
of skills the 21st century learners do not have, such as research,
math or critical thinking skills and values like honesty and hard work. We
discussed this happens because everything has been given to them very easily.
In
this course we will learn about how to use and design technological tools to
help both types of learners in their English processes. I am sure it will be a
lot of fun!
Below you will find a video related to 21st century learners. I hope you enjoy it!
